Launched in 2020 by the Gallets (a father and son duo), Sealife Organics is a young Mauritian company that is both eco-friendly and innovative. Their natural seaweed-based products are unique in Mauritius and available in a growing number of outlets across the island, including Gros Cailloux, one of its partners. Spotlight on the brand.
Sealife Organics is the first company on the island which harvests seaweed – the company's primary raw material – straight from the beach while respecting the environment.
Chosen for its high concentration of trace elements, seaweed helps Sealife Organics achieve its mission of creating eco-friendly agricultural products which maximise crop yield and profits for both producers, and individuals who want their plants to be as chemical-free as possible.
Every Sealife Organic product is a way for the ocean to feed the earth. Their range includes 100% homemade organic compost, organic seaweed-based fertilisers, potting mix, and various seaweed and seagrass by-products. What's more, you can buy these products at Gros Cailloux – their brand partner – and numerous Espace Maison outlets across the island.
It's at Gros Cailloux that Yohan Gallet ran controlled experiments on various plants to find the perfect balance for his compost. The final result is a rich composition of seaweed (of course), wood chips, manure, and eggshells which can be used as an organic fertiliser and supports all types of plants (vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, etc.) Sealife Organic's compost enriches the soil and helps retain moisture, reduces diseases, and allows good bacteria to proliferate.
The brand's potting mix – a combination of earth and compost – is ideal for use in potted flowers and herbs and is the perfect solution for anyone looking to save time and improve the efficiency of their planting process. And the eco-friendly brand is not stopping there.
As of 2023, Sealife Organics will bring innovative products to market, including a new range of potting soil in partnership with Gros Cailloux. "The ocean is full of wisdom and teaches us a lot. So, let's be aware of what is happening on our beaches. We have polluted the seas for many years, but today it is important to take care of what we have left," says Yohan Gallet.
