Drymix: concrete finishes from floor to ceiling

100% ‘Made in Moris’, Drymix products are made in Bambous which allows the team to ensure that the products are especially adapted to the Mauritian microclimates. This is achieved with two different ranges: Crépifix for the temperate regions; and Crépifix HP for the more humid climate of Plaines Wilhems District.

Their quality is guaranteed, but their performance and the time they last depend on the way you use them. Below is the advice of Jean-Paul Steeven Hortense, Contracting & Technical Support Supervisor at UBP.

To apply your product perfectly

All Drymix surfacing requires the same procedure to be undertaken to ensure the highest performance. Firstly, the surface needs to be smoothed out, all irregularities need to be removed, and the night before the product is applied, it needs to be washed with a Karcher. The day the product is laid, all that remains to do is to prepare the mixture according to the instructions, to saturate the walls with water and to apply your chosen product!

4 choices for your interior walls and ceilings

Opt for the Crépifix 450, 800, 01 or 02 – the rough texture varies in thickness, depending on the finishing technique:

  • Sponge: for a granulated finish which resembles grains of sugar
  • Paint brush: for a less textured finish
  • Scratched: for a more textured finish with visible roughness

Fans of smoother finishes can opt for the ‘Plastertop fin’.

‘Tyrotop’: for your exterior walls

This product, which needs an undercoat of Crépifix, provides the perfect finish if you want a rustic look which brings to mind hacienda style homes. This product has been especially developed to allow it to be applied with a machine that projects it in order to create a coarse grain effect. You’ll have the option to leave it as it is, in order to have pointed granules, or to flatten it and have a stony effect.

Two finishes for floors in a single product

The ‘Screed 04’ gets its unique texture from its sand-based composition (Granula 4mm). It gives a beautiful finish to tile joints when laying tiles.

It can also look like polished concrete – very on trend – if it is used with Durcisol, a surface hardener which has a moiré effect.

Extra tips:

  1. If you spot any structural cracks, fix these before applying the finishes.
  2. Drying time is important: don’t hesitate to use a curing compound in cool weather or to water for 7 days if the weather is sunny, because roughcasting that dries too quickly often cracks.
  3. In windy weather, surround your construction with “sarlon” (a green windbreak/sun shade net): it will prevent any debris from flying away and works as a windbreak allowing you to better control the drying time.
  4. When by the sea, make sure you wash the walls thoroughly in order to remove all salt crystals as they would affect the performance of the product.
  5. The secret to success is in the preparation of the product: make sure that you follow the recommended quantities and the directions for use.
