In addition to its diverse leisure activities, the Gros Cailloux Leisure Park, located between Canot and Petite-Rivière, is home, amongst other things, to large areas of crops, to a plant nursery, to a pleasant lakeside restaurant and to an animal shelter. This veritable 'green lung', which has made innovation its new creed, will soon be opening up new activities, available for everyone.
One thing is certain: on this former 935 acre sugar plantation, where one can still find some vestiges of the past, those looking for escape are never disappointed! Many activities, be they nautical, on land, or even in the air (on a 25 m, 75 m or 275 m zip-line) are offered at Gros Cailloux Leisure Park: pedalo, kayak, canoe, stand up paddle, fishing, wakeboard, a visit to the animal shelter 'L'Arche de Noé', mountain biking, archery, nature tours (visit of the greenhouses, gardening, hiking and picnicking in the forest)… The choices are many and likely to please young and old.
"The park is in an ideal location, near the largest towns and 10 minutes from the centre of the island: it is very easy to access. Moreover, it benefits from a pleasant climate all year round. It is therefore a sought-after destination for those looking to relax or to expend some energy surrounded by nature. Don't forget that you can also eat well at the lakeside Tekoma restaurant!" Bipasha Kowlessur, Events & Brand Manager at Gros Cailloux reminds us.
New activities to come
In this little paradise, new activities will shortly be created. A hiking trail will soon be open for all. This is the chance to discover the forest and Gros Cailloux's beautiful lake during a walk of around 2 hours; as well as its sugar cane fields and its sustainably farmed fruit and vegetables and its nursery (the biggest in Mauritius!) which is full of bedding and indoor plants, fruit trees, orchids and cactuses. During this hike, you can also admire buildings from yesteryear: there are stone buildings dating from 1789 – the distillery and flour mill are still on the property. Next to these are a sugar cane and wheat mill and an area set up to make bread, built in 1862.
The mountain biking trails, which add up to more than 3 km, are also going to improve: from July 2022, new trails will be open to the public. Certain trails will be dedicated to families and others will have a higher level of difficulty. At the same time, a football pitch will be inaugurated and accessible to all, between 6 am and 6 pm every day. Just what is needed to delight football fans!
Before the end of the year 2022, the Gros Cailloux Leisure Park should also be welcoming paddle-tennis courts, as well as an open-air cinema which will certainly please families; cinematic classics and other blockbusters will be shown on a giant screen in the park's big open area.
"To refresh the spirit and spend quality time with friends, family and even with colleagues during a team-building event, Gros Cailloux is really the place to be," Bipasha Kowlessur says enthusiastically. So, stay tuned, and don't miss the launch of these new activities!
